The edge of the world! Maybe not the scariest place on earth, but the peaks of Seceda (2519m) looks really stunning and intimidating. The plateau of Seceda is widely considered one of the most photogenic locations in the Dolomites, which puts it among the best of the entire Alps. You need to hike to the point in order to shot a sunrise or a sunset as the lifts do work only during the daytime for a limited duration. From the mountain station of the Col Raiser gondola cableway (2,100 m), we take the trail n° 4, leading us the way across meadows and high-alpine forests towards the Rif. Firenze. From this place, the hiking trail n°1 stretches towards the Seceda. Hiking length is about 9,5km and it takes around 4 hours to finish it as the attitude difference is nearly 500 meters!

Alpe di Siusi / Seiser Alm

The local tourist information defines this place as ‘Where the Dolomites are at their most beautiful’. You need to have a hotel reservation to surrounding villages of Castelrotto/Kastelruth, Siusi/Seis, Fiè allo Sciliar/Völs am Schlern and Tires al Catinaccio/Tiers am Rosengarten to be able to enter the area. The area is restricted to car traffic unless you have overnight on the region. I’d recommend to spend at least 2-3 days as the place is a hiking and mountain biking heaven.

This particular shot was from a slightly cloudy sunrise. Watching the sunrise with the extraordinary views of Dolomites worth all the effort to go there. This is a perfect place for time lapse photography as the sun rises from the side of the mountains the small hilly region on the front does its spectacular light show!
